My Secret to Winning the Coaching Adventures Games

I am celebrating all month long! If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know that I celebrated my 30th birthday on March 5th and I’m using it as an excuse to celebrate all month, even all year long. Because… why not?!

Today I want to celebrate something that I’ve been keeping to myself for several months. I didn’t share it sooner because I was honestly a little shy to share it with the world.

Last November, I was invited to participate in a game with a bunch of other coaches. The aim of the game was to meet other coaches, become a better coach and to have fun. So, of course I said “yes” to the challenge!

In the beginning, I wasn’t really focused on winning the games. I was focused on connection with other coaches and becoming a better coach myself.

But do you know what ended up happening?

I WON THE ENTIRE GAME!

The game was so much fun but also quite competitive. I started out just getting my feet wet and doing a few challenges. However, during the second week I realized that I would have to really play hard if I was going to win. I was up against some really talented coaches, and I could tell that three of them were really in it to win. So, I had to step up my game.

The Challenges

There were 100 challenges in total for the games and each one had different scoring criteria. Some of the challenges were super scary for me (like heart racing, palms sweaty scary). Instead of worrying about how scary or difficult they were, I focused everyday on getting points on the board. I even decided not to focus on how many points I was getting on the board. As long as I was getting points on the board every single day, I was happy.

There was also a different kind of challenge that I needed to be more strategic about if I was really going to win the game: FAB challenges.

FAB CHALLENGES

FAB stands for Fast Action Bonus Challenge. These challenges meant that you really had to be paying attention and be prepared if you wanted to score the bonus. For some of them, only one person could score points and for a select few multiple people could score. They were all time-sensitive which meant I had to be keeping my eyes on my inbox and the Facebook group.

I missed the first few of the FAB challenges. When I realized that I would need to complete all 100 challenges and score points on as many FAB challenges as I could to win the game, I was determined not to miss another FAB bonus!

My Strategy

I decided to create a plan and tracked my progress to ensure I could complete as many of the challenges as I could. I set aside about 2 hours every day to work on the challenges. I haven’t shared this before, but I also work a full time job delivering groceries. Coaching is my passion and something that I really love doing and I am good at. Grocery delivery is not my dream and I don’t always love doing it, but it’s helping to fund my dream of being a life coach.

This means that I needed to put a lot of focus on my time management and be super organized. So when it came to the FAB challenges, I had to be ready and paying attention. This is where I pulled out my secret weapon.

MY SECRET TO WINNING THE GAME

My secret was email management and strategic use of Facebook. If I was going to win the FAB challenges, I needed to make them a priority and since they could come at any time I had to be prepared.

I started with my email inbox and used a tool called Unroll.Me. I went through my emails and decided which emails inspired me but didn’t need my attention for the duration of the coaching game and used Unroll.Me to roll up all those emails into one. If you’ve never heard of Unroll.Me, don't worry I’ll explain more about it in my upcoming workshop.

I then made sure I was clearing out my inbox every single day to be as close to inbox zero as possible so that when a FAB challenge came in, I didn’t miss it and I would be ready to tackle it.

On Facebook, I pinned a few Facebook groups that were important and sorted out my notifications so that I was only receiving the most important ones. Since some of the FAB challenges could come up on Facebook, I had to make this a priority too.

By prioritizing what emails and notifications I was seeing, I could easily make a decision as to whether it was important to make time for them or not. In doing this, I was able to really focus in on the coaching game. It allowed me to not only make this a time of growth for me but also a really fun experience.

Mindful Tech masterclass

Keeping my email in check during the coaching game ensured that I was focused and prioritizing the right things. This made me really think about how we use email in our day-to-day lives and how the inbox often disguises itself as a to-do list.

Our inboxes have a way of running our lives, prioritizing for us. It should be the other way around. Email is such a great tool and when used right it can be super powerful!

That is why I’ve created the Mindful Tech Masterclass! This masterclass will help you not only implement useful email management strategies but change your mindset about email so that it works for YOU.
